BRM is an abbreviation for BREVETS DE RANDONNEUR MONDIAUX

“Randonnee ?, a French word loosely transalates to go on a long trip, tour, outing, usually on foot or on a bicycle, along a defined route. A person who goes on a “randonnée ? is called a “randonneur ?. In cycling, it means a long distance ride to be completed within allotment time. Randonnee is not a race and is more about camaraderie, enjoying the route, self-sufficiency and love for the outdoors. it is ideally characterized by cooperation over competition. All finishers are winners.

Brevet (pronounced breh-WAY), again a French term, refers to the certificate (brevet) a participant gets after completion of a particular distance. Randonneur events are 200 km, 300 km, 400 km, 600 km, 1000 km, and 1200 km.

To qualify a for a brevet, the event must be completed within set time limits, typically

200 Km  – 13.5 Hrs
300 Km  – 20 Hrs
400 Km  – 27 Hrs
600 Km  – 40 Hrs
1000 Km – 75 Hrs

Any randonneur who successfully completes a sequence of 200, 300, 400 and 600-kilometer brevets in a single calander year is considered to be a “super randonneur ?. A special medal is awarded to Super Randonneurs.

After successfully completing any ACP-sanctioned BRM brevet, you may purchase a handsome commemorative medal from the event organizer. It usually takes several months to arrive from France, but it’s worth all the wait.

First run in 1891, Paris-Brest-Paris or “PBP ? is a grueling the 1200-kilometer test of human endurance and cycling ability. Organized every four years by the Audax Club Parisien, the Paris-Brest-Paris Randonneurs is the oldest bicycling event. Beginning from the French capital, it travels west 600 kilometers to the port city of Brest on the Atlantic Ocean and returns to Paris.

A 90-hour time limit ensures that only the hardiest randonneurs earn the prestigious PBP finisher’s medal and have their name entered into the event’s “Great Book ? along with every other finisher going back to the very first PBP.
The Next PBP will be held in Aug 2023. for more details refer to https://cyclone.org.in/brm/pbp-2023/
